Had my First VISTA Moment Today

So ... apparently zipped files sometimes just don't like to open when using Vista. I fixed it thanks to a tip in a forum that I found, required downloading an application to bypass crappy Vista.

Sigh. How I wish XP had been available when I purchased my new computer.

Gearing up for a friends wedding this week. I'm going to be the MC, so I'm a little nervous. I'm famous for thinking that all my jokes are hilarious when in reality they're on the cheesy side ... must run everything by the Hubster before it goes into the final draft, not that I'm preparing a stand-up routine or anything, but I want to be a little more energetic and lively than not.

I've also started putting resumes out there for Articling. I've just begun the process, perhaps a little late, but I'm really trying to target smaller, more specialized firms. I think I should find a perfect fit eventually. Exciting to think about being done.

Been back and forth between here and Calgary a lot, which isn't going to end anytime soon. Reminds me of first year law school when Jason and I were living apart, but I'm not quite so sad this time! Ha.

In Case You Want a Dose of Paranoia this AM

Global Incident Map

Well, I'm back from a stint in Calgary. I got to attend a friend's bridal shower and stagette, which was just great.

Also - congrats to Jackie and Glen on their new bundle'o'joy! Welcome Vaughn.

I've been working on updating all sorts of lists for the LSA, and catching up on all sorts of reading that I haven't been able to tackle until now.

Anyhoo - short post for right now, I promise, I'll try and do better soon!

The Dreaded Marks Are In ...

... and it looks like I'm officially a 3L! Woot woot!

Pretty much my best semester ever, save the last test that I wrote amid a scenario that I likely could have gotten a deferral for. I thought about trying to get one, but decided to just motor through and accept the grade that I got, which still is decent in the grand scheme of things, so I'm happy with my decision.

I'll have to write about deferrals which I'll post later ... since I think many students (actually, I KNOW many students) don't appropriately access this resource.

As for my two paper classes, I finished up strong. SO relieving. I did have a lot of help from one prof, which was awesome, and I think I may finally have the confidence to tackle another paper class. Never thought I'd see the day.

My Best class (in terms of marks): Tax law. Who'd have thunk? Looks like I'll have to be taking Tax II if it's offered next year.

I've been thinking about classes that I still want to take, and so far here's the list:
  • Family Law
  • Civil Procedure
  • Intellectual Property Law
  • Administrative Law
  • Tax II
  • Employment Law
  • Labour Law
  • Possibly Family Law II, or some other related seminar - I have a killer paper idea that I think fits under here
Other than that, it's far too hard to decide, since there are a LOT of things that I'd like to take.

Sigh.

Jason and I have mostly been working on our house, playing WOW (ahem ... ), and generally still trying to get our lives in order. It's so funny how much your life gets put on hold while it's -40 kazillion degrees outside (or maybe it's just us "soft" Calgarians).

Either way, I'm so happy that the weather is starting to display a pattern of smartening up.

I Spent All Day Yesterday

... fiddling around with the Law Student's Association website. I'm going to put it through an overhaul this summer, in hopes of achieving a really useful tool for both current students and people that are thinking about becoming students, but I still want to maintain the "look" that we had going on. I redid a few things, just to make them look a little more streamlined ... I hope.

I just have to figure out how to get the picture of the building to align right, and then I'm happy with the banner.

Funny thing ... takes me back to my undergraduate days ... it's so much easier to write your own code than to try and modify somebody else's.

I could use Frontpage, but I feel like that's a cop-out - hee!

If anyone ever has any suggestions for that site - please let me know!

PS. I <3 Photoshop.
